Furniture retailers and manufacturers have responded more than ever to guidelines that help protect forests and contribute to the sustainable use of wood and other materials, according to a new report. The 2021 Wood Furniture Scoreboard, from the National Wildlife Federation and the Sustainable Furnishings Council, assessed 118 furniture retailers on their wood sourcing policies.
âWe are seeing an industry-wide shift towards sustainability, which is noticeable not only by the growing number of companies voluntarily engaging in this process, but also by the increasing scores of companies that have been rated in previous years, âsaid Barbara Bramble. , vice president of international wildlife conservation and corporate strategies at the National Wildlife Federation. âWe applaud this year’s top and top scorers and honorable mentions and encourage all retailers to take the necessary steps to move towards responsible wood sourcing. “
âWe have had more dramatic improvements in scores this year than any previous year, we have published this scorecard,â said Susan Inglis, Executive Director of the Sustainable Furnishings Council.[MS1] . âI am proud of the companies in our industry who are committed to using a range of resources that we are able to offer. I know their own businesses, as well as the world’s forests, will benefit from their effective implementation of strong policies for wood furniture sourcing, and I take comfort in that! “
This year, of the 118 companies reviewed, 17 achieved top marks, 20 top marks and six honorable mentions. Cisco Home, Williams-Sonoma, Inc., The Arrangement, and Working Wonders are at the forefront of sustainable practices.
Now in its fourth year, the Wood Furniture Scorecard continues to set the standard for responsible wood sourcing. As the number of retailers with high scores increases year on year, consumers and businesses are becoming more aware that unsustainable sourcing practices are simply no longer acceptable. The scorecard acts as a comprehensive buying guide for conscientious consumers and as a model for retailers to improve their wood sourcing practices and contribute to their environmental, social and overall governance performance.
