Foster + Partners launches a range of solid wood furniture

Foster + Partners has launched a collection of solid wood furniture designed to be passed down from generation to generation.

The OVO range, shown at Clerkenwell Design Week May 22-24, was designed to be durable so parts can be used for many years to come.

Made in collaboration with the furniture manufacturer Benchmark, the collection includes two variants of a dining table, a sideboard, a shelf, a high table, a coffee table, a stool and benches.

“Working closely with the craftsmen at Benchmark, we have created a unique line of solid wood furniture that embodies a sense of warmth and generosity,” said Mike Holland, industrial design manager at Foster + Partners.

“[It] has an inherent sense of longevity that will allow each piece to bring together memories and meaning through successive generations. “

“The range celebrates the centuries-old tradition of crafting everyday objects, combining durability and meticulous details with strong materiality to create an exceptionally tactile and generous range of furniture,” explained the brand.

The first piece in the collection is a dining table, which has a rectangular top with visible joints and four legs tilted outward. It has a natural finish and is available in two heights.

It is accompanied by a set of long rectangular benches with a minimalist design and visible joints, like the dining table.

The shelf is 1.9 meters long and is supported by cylindrical wooden rods.

“A unique connection system between the brackets allows multiple shelves to be stacked on top of each other – from a simple low pair to a maximum of five shelves,” the brand said.

Meanwhile, the sideboard has a rectangular structure with circular recessed handle details. It is available with six or four doors.

Other pieces in the collection include a round dining table, side table, and coffee table.

The smooth geometry of the OVO range not only imbues parts with silent solidity, but also serves as a compelling invitation to the touch, while the boldness and simplicity of its form demand perfection in the execution of the crafts, ”Holland said.

Best known for its architectural projects, Foster + Partners ranked 9th in the latest Dezeen Hot List and is currently building a new headquarters for robotics company DJI in Shenzhen City and completing a hotel in Hong Kong in the former seat of government.

The cabinet is also working on a number of design projects, including a chair that facilitates focused work in public spaces and a table lamp with a candle-like glow.
